Scooter lunacy with Shildon S.C.

Crawling in to bed after a nightshift is always a pleasure but not when you know you have to be up in one and a half hours. Except in this case!

After my forty winks I had to go and buy myself a new tent, where do they go? Suitably equiped it was time to meet some of the loons I was to travel the short distance to Bishop Auckland with, the sun was burning and I was buzzing. My first rally/do for too long.

After meeting up with the usual suspects it was a 5 minute trip to meet at wolviston services where we were all to set off from. By 2:30 there were around 20 bikes and a few vans etc ready to set off on the 25 mile trip that would lead us to a day of scooter related lunacy.

The ride to Bishop Auckland was enjoyable in the sunny weather with the bikes spread out and taking it at a lesiurely pace, we recieved a few curious looks from other drivers but nothing more eventful to spoil the ride.

On arriving we got the tents up and went for a shuftty about, Im guessing there were only a few hundred people, mostly on bikes. Lots of familiar friendly faces and some absolutely stunning scooters. The beers were flowing freely and in some cases being fed through a funnel and tube to some distinctly wobbly scooterboys. Myself included I had to go for an extended lie down, just as well though because thats when the clouds opened for an hour or two. It never stopped the games of football, funnel feeding and horse pestering though.

When I was fit enough to get off my back and go to the do proper the band was in full swing, an 8 piece ( Im guessing here because I could see between 4 and 16 of them by this point) ska outfit that had the dancefloor bouncing and people dancing on tables and chairs. Im ashamed to say I was too drunk to catch their names but a call to the Shildon club will soon put you straight if you want to book them. The night ended for me after the band finished as I sneaked back to my tent in a drunken state. Others were up until the wee hours swapping stories and generally getting up to no good until the sun came up again. I knew nothing until 8am.

Mysteriously about half of the tents had vanished over night but that still left long queues of pale green faces waiting for coffee and sandwiches which were just what i needed for a last look around the remaining scooters and to say my goodbyes. After a short ride home, all that remained was to whinge constantly about my sunburn before going back to bed before another nightshift.

A brilliant do from the boys and girls of shildon S.C. , top marks, cheers.
